SACRAMENTO ARADHANA - A non-profit Organization dedicated to Preserve and Promote Carnatic Music in the Sacramento Region

Sacramento Aradhana is pleased to offer, for the very first time, an innovative, structured 6-month Certificate Course in Carnatic Music. The course will be conducted online via video conferencing. For those registered, we will send 2 audio filesThe students will have to learn one of the songs, then send their recorded audio/video entries to sangeethavihar@gmail.com. Students have the option of picking any one song.
 
All selected students will assemble at one venue once a week for classes. The deadline for submitting entries is January 15, 2015. . There will be a one-on-one assessment at the end of the course at the CSUS campus.
 
SACRAMENTO ARADHANA is working closely with the DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC, CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITYSACRAMENTO, (CSUS) for this Certificate program. This is a pilot project to assess the interest among our carnatic music community. Once it gets implemented, students may start receiving Transcripts and Certificate directly from the State University apart from the certificate provided by Sacramento Aradhana.
 
We are not stopping here! Further discussions are in progress to make this course available through the University Distance Education System in the near horizon!

Can this Certificate Course be replaced with a regular Carnatic music lesson?

Participants should not treat this "CERTIFICATE COURSE" as a regular class.

How the Classes are conducted?

Classes will be conducted online, but we will request all the students to assemble at one place.

 

What is the frequency of the sessions?

The participants will spend 1 hour with Vidwan Sikkil Gurucharan (online, Video Conferencing) every week for the whole 6 months

 

How can one join this program?

Selection will be through audition. For those interested, we will send 2 audio files.  The students will have to learn one of the songs, then send their recorded audio/video entries to sangeethavihar@gmail.com. Students have the option of picking any one song.

 

For those who completes the 6 months, will there be anything for them to continue?

Yes.  They will move on to the next set of their learning process, if they want to continue.

 

What is the last day to submit the song?

Jan 15th will be the last date to submit the entries.  January last week we will announce the selected candidates.

 

Is there any fees for this program?

Yes.  The students will have to pay the fees and the same can be paid fully or in 2 installments. Special pricing of $360 applicable only to Sacramento Residents. For the program conducted outside Sacramento, the course Fee will be $600.

 

What will this course cover?

The syllabus for the course will be made available to students who are selected.

 

What if a student is unable to attend any session during the course?

Students are requested to be regular, sincere and plan to attend all the sessions. If for some unavoidable reasons, a student is absent for any of the sessions, a video recording will be made available for the student to catch up.

 

Is this limited to Sacramento Residents?

To begin with, we limit this to Sacramento Residents. We are planning to open this to Bay Area Students in mid 2015 and subsequently to all others areas based on the interest level.
